Watch a White Lantern Documentary

A unique insight into the life of a woman who booked a one-way ticket to Vietnam to become a war photographer when she was just 21. This documentary follows a British photojournalist as he tells Catherine Leroy’s story for the first time.

‘One Way Ticket’ is a personal journey exploring the life of the late French photojournalist Catherine Leroy who booked a one-way ticket to Saigon in 1966 to cover the war when she was just 21 years old. This was despite the fact that she stood only 5ft tall, had never set foot in a war zone before and spoke only three words of English. Ten years later, Catherine became the first woman in history to win the prestigious Robert Capa Award.

Now Greg Funnell, a 21-year old British photojournalist who has recently returned from covering this years Israel-Lebanon conflict, will rediscover one of the key influences on his young career – Cathy Leroy. By visiting the war zones she worked in and with help from legendary war photographers such as Tim Page, who worked with Cathy, Greg will book his own ‘one way ticket’ to piece together Cathy’s elusive life and tell the story of Vietnam’s most undiscovered war photographer.
